Solway Mosses Perhaps the most interesting piece of news from the Solway Mosses was the breeding of Short-eared Owls. There was definitely a pair on Glasson Moss, and probably two pairs on Bowness Common, with regular sightings throughout the season. [No records of breeding Short-eared Owl were forthcoming for The Breeding Birds of Cumbria from the coastal mosses for any of the years 1997-2001 - Ed.]
